Setting Default Print Settings
Goals
We want to encourage users to minimize the quantity of toner and paper we use when it comes time to print. Most print jobs only need the lowest quality settings for everyday use. We can set reasonable defaults so that users don't need to think about the settings unless they need to create better quality prints.
Create the default printer profile
This will be the default for everybody.
- Named something descriptive like 600dpi-EconoMode-Duplex
- 600 DPI
- Economode on
- Duplex printing (both side of the page)
Create a second profile for "2UP"
We'll create at least one more Quick Set which will print 2 pages per page. This is actually extremely useful for printing a lot of documents, but may be too extreme to make the default. By adding this as a Quick Set it raises user awareness that this feature exists, and make it easy to select it.
- Named something descriptive like 600dpi-EconoMode-Duplex-2UP
- 600 DPI
- Economode on
- Duplex printing (both side of the page)
- 2UP (print two pages on each sheet of paper)
Create a third profile for "One-sided"
- Named something descriptive like 600dpi-EconoMode-Duplex-One-sided
- 600 DPI
- Economode on
- DO NOT select 'both side of the page'
